I recently started an interesting project. With a small but very creative and innovative theatre production I have started producing images to be included in the theatre representations. As I write, I am working in finalizing the post processing of the images to go with a Pirandello piece, The man with the flower in his mouth, a short and intense story telling the emotions and reflections of a sicilian man facing a cancer diagnosis. The man is dying, and finds himself talking to a business man to whom he tells his new perspective upon life.
The images are going to represent his new perspective and together with music from the sicilian tradition are ought to be setting the audience mood to receive the two men’s dialogue.
Interesting experience. iIt s not everyday work for a photographer to put in images the words written for the stage. Usually we work either on personal project where we have complete freedom to explore our ideas and connection with the subjects, or under a commercial customer assignment we usually stick to its creative vision with varying level of creative freedom, depending on the customer. In this case you need to be true to the author message but at the same time interpret it and put your vision into the image. A new level of creative freedom with constrains which I found really intellectually stimulating.
Here are some of the images run during the show. Go to the projects section of the site to see the full project.
